4000 birds of cockatiel and bajriga breed died in a fire in Bagerhat’s Chitalmari. Sunday (October 15) in the early morning of Surshail village of the upazila. The fire incident took place in Shubhra Sheikh’s farm. Chitalmari Fire Service and locals brought the fire under control.

Farmer Shubhra Sheikh said, I started a bird farm 7 to 8 years ago. I raised the farm with much difficulty. There were more than 4000 cockatiel and bajriga birds in the farm. Next to my living room, there was the bird farm, around four in the morning we woke up to the heat of the fire and the chirping of birds. I came out of the house and saw that there was a fire burning in the bird farm next to the house. In the fire, all the birds of the farm and cash worth 1 lakh 75 thousand 300 taka, two houses, more than four hundred bird cages and bird eggs were destroyed. I have lost about 15 lakh rupees.

Talmari Fire Service and Civil Defense station officer in charge. Abdul Adud said, went to the spot and brought the fire under control. Two houses were burnt down before we arrived. An estimated loss of 14 to 15 lakh rupees has been caused. The fire is initially believed to have started from an electrical short circuit.
