6 people were killed in separate road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Shibpur and Raipura of Narsingdi. At least 9 people were injured in these accidents.

On Friday (August 15) at around 2 o’clock in the morning, three people, including the driver of the microbus, were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a microbus on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Shibpur in Narsingdi. 7 other passengers in the microbus were seriously injured in this road accident. The accident took place near the Srifulia bus stand on the Shivpur highway.

Apart from the driver, 10 people injured in the road accident are workers of a garment factory in Narayanganj. They went to visit Hazrat Shahjalal’s shrine in Sylhet in that microbus.

The deceased are, Efadul Haque (50), Md. Mostakin (17), and microhabitant Sagar Chandra (32). It is said that Efadul and Mostakin’s house is in Chandpur, and Sagar’s house is Narayanganj.

Tragic Road Accident claim Lives and raise Concerns

According to Highway Police, 10 people left for Sylhet in the rented microbus last Thursday night. After visiting various places, including Shahjalal’s shrine throughout the day, they returned last night. Around 2 a.m., when the microbus was crossing the Srifulia area of the highway, a truck carrying cargo lost control and collided head-on with the microbus. Three passengers of the microbus were killed on the spot. 7 others were injured. After receiving the information, fire service and highway police went to the spot and rescued the injured.

Seven seriously injured people were sent to Narsingdi district hospital with 100 beds, and the doctor on duty of the emergency department referred them to Dhaka with first aid. The bodies of the three deceased have been sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Itakhola Highway Police Outpost. Elias Hossain said that the truck which was moving at a reckless speed, lost control and collided head-on with the microbus. All three died on the spot. The truck and microbus involved in the road accident have been seized, but the truck driver is absconding. The relatives of the three victims have been contacted. Further legal action will be taken after discussion with them.

Earlier that day, three passengers of a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw were killed and two injured when a passenger bus hit them in the VT Morjal area of Dhaka-Sylhet highway of Raipura upazila around 9:30 pm. The three deceased are Md. of Barachar village of North Bakharnagar Union of Raipura Upazila. Kasem Mia’s wife Dolna Begum (55) and her son Ariyan (10) and Rana Mia (19) son of Maqbul Hossain of Dhukundi village of Belab upazila.
