Two leaders of the Central Committee of the Chhatra League were arrested and beaten up in the Shahbag police station. The leaders and workers of the student organization of the ruling party are blaming Haroon Or Rashid, ADC of Ramna Police Division, for the beating. This incident happened on Saturday (September 9) night.
The injured are Sharif Ahmed Munim, Central Science Affairs Secretary of Chhatra League and General Secretary of Shahidullah Hall, and Anwar Hossain Naeem, Central Organizing Secretary and President of Fazlul Haque Hall. They were rescued and admitted to the hospital.
Because of this incident, the leaders and workers of the Chhatra League gathered in front of the Shahbag police station at night. Later, the university proctor and police officials went to the police station and resolved the incident at midnight.
Chhatra League sources said that ADC Harun was chatting with another female police officer at Bardem Hospital on Saturday (September 9) night. At that time, the husband of the woman officer went there with two leaders of the Central Chhatra League. The husband of the female officer is also a government official. ADC Haroon had an argument with him. Later, ADC Harun took the two Central Chhatra League leaders to Shahbag police station. There, they were subjected to inhuman torture. After that, when the situation became dire, the two were sent to the hospital.
Newmarket zone ADC Shahen Shah Mahmud said, ‘There is no such thing known. But while walking, one of our officers collided with another officer. Even if there was a misunderstanding about it, the matter has been resolved.’
On Sunday (September 10) morning, DMP Commissioner Khandaker Golam Farooq said, ‘I heard about the incident. The complaint has been taken into consideration. A departmental inquiry has been ordered in this regard.
