Arrest despite anticipatory bail: 2 policemen apologise before HC

Two officers of Patuakhali Police Station have apologised to the High Court for arresting Asraful Hawlader, a college student, on May 18 in connection with a case even though he was out on anticipatory bail from the same court in the case.

Patuakhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Moniruzzaman and its Assistant Sub-Inspector Mizanur Rahman offered an unconditional apology through their lawyer Abu Reza Md Qayyum Khan last month before the HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Aminul Islam.

They also appeared before the bench today in compliance with its earlier summons order.

The HC bench today fixed tomorrow for further hearing of the matter and asked the police officers to appear before it, Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi told The My News.

The HC on May 21 issued a rule and summons order against OC Moniruzzaman and ASI Mizanur Rahman following a newspaper report published on May 20.

According to the newspaper, the police arrested Ashraful Hawlader on May 18 in a case though his lawyer informed the police over phone that he was granted anticipatory bail by the HC on the same case.

But the police picked up him, brought him to the police station and produced him before a magistrate on May 19. The magistrate released him on the same day after seeing the HC order of bail.
