Arrests of BNP men: DMP denies targeting any particular political party

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq today said the police have not targeted any particular political party during its drives in the capital ahead of the BNP’s grand rally tomorrow.

No complaints have been received about biased actions, and that any such complaints will be investigated thoroughly, he said at a briefing at the DMP Media Centre this afternoon.

Regarding the recent arrests, the DMP chief claimed that the arrestees were suspects or accused in different criminal cases, and many of them were facing arrest warrants.

Faruq said these arrests are part of the police’s routine work to maintain law and order, and such activities will continue.

Police on Wednesday night made a series of arrests at different places of the capital.

At least 50 BNP leaders and activists were picked up from Midway Residential Hotel adjacent to the party’s central office in Nayapaltan.
