Awami League is preparing for the elections in full swing.Awami League president Sheikh Hasina said in the first meeting of the election management committee for the upcoming national parliament elections that the leaders of the party who want to become members of parliament must support whoever the party nominates.

According to the source of the meeting, in the meeting held at the Dhaka district office of Awami League in Tejgaon on Friday, the president of the party ordered her colleagues to do whatever is necessary to increase the voter turnout.

Chairman of the steering committee Sheikh Hasina urged the Awami League leaders to unite and maintain order.

Awami League has formed 15 sub-committees to prepare for the elections and party presidium member Kazi Zafar Ullah has been made the co-chairman of the steering committee.Former bureaucrat HT Imam was the co-chairman of the steering committee during the last three general elections.

Sheikh Hasina will collect nomination forms from the Awami League head office at Bangabandhu Avenue today and officially inaugurate the sale of nomination papers.According to party sources, the election manifesto of Awami League is almost final.

Sources also said that the Awami League will hold a meeting with the partners of the 14-party alliance and discuss who and how many seats the Awami League partners will get.

Awami League members may come to an agreement on getting 18 seats. But initially they will want more seats. At present, there are eight representatives of Awami League’s partner parties in the parliament.

Leaders of Awami League’s main alliance Workers Party yesterday met with the leaders of the party and called for the seat sharing issue to be resolved as soon as possible.In her opening speech, Sheikh Hasina urged BNP and other parties to participate in the elections.

He said BNP-Jamaat committed crimes by killing people, causing damage to property through arson and setting cars on fire. We want them to apologize to the nation for their crimes and then participate in the twelfth national elections.’Everyone should participate (in elections). The door is open for everyone’, he said.He thanked the Election Commission for announcing the schedule of elections ignoring the arson.

Referring to the constitutional right of the people to vote, Sheikh Hasina said, ‘Those who have the courage will contest the elections. If they get public support they will get votes. The party elected by the people will form the government.

“Our aim has always been to ensure people’s right to vote. The new government will be elected by people’s vote, not by using weapons not in the dark of night’, he said.Stating that BNP and its allies will not be able to stop the election, he said, arsonists will not be forgiven.

According to a notification, the aspirants themselves or their representatives can collect and submit the application form in person by 4 pm on November 21. It can also be done online at the specified address (nomination.albd.org) or through the Smart Nomination App.
