In Cox’s Bazar’s Maheshkhali, an Awami League chief named Faridul Alam has been accused of threatening to kill Peter Haas, the US ambassador assigned to Dhaka.

A video footage of his speech went viral on social media on Wednesday (November 15).The accused Faridul Alam is the senior vice-president of Maheshkhali Upazila Awami League of Cox’s Bazar and former chairman of Hoanak Union.

It’s recognized that Maheshkhali’s Kalamarchhara Union Awami League organized a workers’ rally on November 6. Faridul Alam spoke as a particular visitor there. A 28-second video clip of the speech went viral on social media.

Faridul Alam might be heard saying within the video, , conspiracy has began in Bangladesh. What a duck is coming. Peter Haas is a bastard. I might have slaughtered and fed the individuals if I discovered the barbaric actions he’s doing on behalf of BNP in Bangladesh. That Peter Haas, the scoundrel.

Accused Faridul Alam instructed the media, I didn’t give such a press release. Peter Haas is our visitor. I requested for hospitality. I didn’t talk about slaughtering him and feeding him.

Common Secretary of Upazila Awami League, Tarek bin Osman Sharif, who was on stage throughout Faridul’s speech, instructed the media, “I’ve not heard about the specter of homicide.” However I heard about Peter Haas giving a speech. It was not proper to make such a press release. So everybody will likely be warned about this in future social gathering conferences.

In the meantime, the US Embassy in Dhaka has commented that the risk to kill Ambassador Peter Haas is ‘unacceptable’ and ‘worrisome’. In a message, the spokesperson of the embassy stated, We’ve got raised the priority relating to the risk to the ambassador Peter Haas to the federal government of Bangladesh as standard. In line with the Vienna Conference on Diplomatic Relations, Bangladesh has an obligation to make sure the safety of US diplomatic missions and their personnel.

Earlier on November 6, Chambal Union Parishad Chairman Mujibul Haque Chowdhury of Chittagong’s Banshkhali had publicly threatened to beat up Haas in a rally.
