Rapid Action Battalion RAB has arrested 03 people, including Moazzem Hossain, the mastermind behind the beating of a 14-year-old teenager named M Akash in Mohammadpur of the capital.
RAB said that the accused have been arrested after conducting raids in different areas of the capital.
Among the three arrested are Manikganj Md. Mir Moazzem Hossain, Sirajganj Md. Feroze and Nilphamari Md. Mostafizur Rahman.
RAB said that during preliminary interrogation, all three have admitted their involvement in the murder.
Akash, a class 6 student, was beaten to death on suspicion of being a thief in an under-construction school building in Tikkapara, Mohammadpur, last Wednesday night.
A video of the beating to death created a sensation when it went viral on social media. The deceased’s mother-in-law filed a murder case at Mohammadpur police station as the plaintiff.
RAB launched an operation to catch the killers. In continuation of this, on Friday night, raids were conducted in different areas of the capital and these three were arrested.
According to a RAB press release, Akash and his friends went to the construction site of a school in Mohammadpur of the capital last Wednesday around 10 pm. At this time the workers of the site chased them. The friends ran away but the workers took Akash and took them to their accommodation.
‘Then, on the orders of the Moazzem, Akash was tied hand and foot and hung from bamboo and brutally beaten with iron rods, sticks and stamps in medieval style.’
According to the notification, Akash was brutally and viciously beaten up throughout the night and suffered serious injuries in various parts of his body. On Thursday morning, when he fell ill, the accused called his brother-in-law.
Brother-in-law came and rescued Akash in serious condition and took him home. At eight o’clock in the morning, Akash fell into the lap of death.
And after hearing the news of the death, the three accused covered their bodies. Later they were caught by RAB’s secret raid team.
Moazzem was the site engineer for the site under construction. RAB arrested him from Ramna area of the capital.
Feroze and Mostafizur were working as construction workers. Feroze was arrested from Hemayetpur in Savar and Mostafizur from Jatrabari area of the capital.
