DSA case against Rajshahi ex-mayor Minu dismissed

A Dhaka tribunal today dismissed a DSA case that was filed against former Rajshahi City Corporation mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu over calling Awami League lawmaker Enamul Haque a “former president of Chhatra Shibir”.

Judge AM Julfiker Hayet of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal passed the order, finding no “cogent grounds” to take cognizance of the charges, bench assistant Shamim Al Mamun told The My News.

In its order, the tribunal noted that the “victim” had not stood as the complainant in the case, nor had any close friend or relative.

The case was, instead, filed by someone who was a distant connection to the alleged victim and, as such, did not have the jurisdiction to file the case, the tribunal added.

The person who had filed the case was not hurt personally by the comment, so the case was dismissed, said the judge in its order.

Parvez Hossain, a staff officer of Enamul’s business institution Ena Group, filed the case with the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal on behalf of AL lawmaker from Rajshahi-4.

After the hearing, the judge recorded the statement of the complainant and fixed today for passing order on the issue, court sources said.

In his complaint, Parvez alleged that Minu, on a private TV talk show, called Enamul Haque “former president of Chhatra Shibir” at 1:00am on July 19.

He also said Enamul was never an activist of Chhatra League and Jubo League. Now he is an AL MP.

Such false and fabricated remarks had damaged the image of the lawmaker, said the case statement.
