The Election Commission (EC) is holding a meeting with the registered political parties including Awami League-BNP next Saturday. EC Secretary Jahangir Alam confirmed this information to reporters on Tuesday.EC Secretary said that a meeting will be held with 44 political parties in two phases on the upcoming 12th Parliament election.

Jahangir Alam said, ‘There will be a day-long meeting on Saturday. It has been decided to sit with a total of 44 teams, 22 each in the morning and afternoon. The Election Commission has already given this decision. Now letters will be given to the presidents and general secretaries of the parties.

This is not a dialogue, but a meeting,” said the EC Secretary. President-General Secretary or representatives of registered parties are invited. It will happen one day. 44 registered teams have been called. They may be informed about the preparations for the elections.’

The EC has held meetings with political parties before the national elections. The organization wants to sit with them again before the 12th parliamentary elections. In previous dialogues, BNP was called several times by the EC but did not receive a response. BNP is being called this time too.

The term of the current 11th Parliament is almost over. Now the Election Commission (EC) has started preparations for the 12th Parliament elections. Due to the constitutional obligation, the next election should be held between November this year and January next year. Although the polling date is not fixed, the EC has said that the election schedule may be announced in the first half of next November and the voting may be held in early January.
