Fatal Clash: Awami League vs Volunteer League in Comilla

A volunteer league leader was killed in a clash between two factions of the Awami League in the Charibhanga union of Meghna upazila of Comilla. Another 10 people were injured in the incident. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Meghna Police Station, Delwar Hossain, confirmed the information about the clash. The injured have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College (DHMC) Hospital and various hospitals in Narayanganj.

Name of the deceased. Nizam. He is from the Nalchar area. Son of Abbas and brother of Humayun Kabir, the present chairman of Chalibhanga Union. Apart from this, he is the Charibhanga Union Volunteer League President.

The injured in this incident are Titu (30), Ramzan (35), Ibrahim (28), Shakeel (22), Khaled Hasan (19), Delwar (32), Anich Sarkar (25), Sumon (24), Hanif (45), and Wasim (35).

Quoting the locals, OC Delwar Hossain said that the conflict between Zilla Parishad member Abdul Qayyum and Chalibhanga Union Chairman Humayun Kabir had been going on for a long time due to various reasons. This led to a clash between the Qayyum and Humayun groups early Monday morning.

Several rounds of firing and counterattacks took place until Monday morning. At least 10 people were injured. Most of the injured have been taken to Dubai. Nazim died while undergoing treatment there. The police officer also said that additional police had been deployed in the area to control the situation.

Deputy Inspector of the DMK Police Outpost, Bachchu Mia, said that most of the injured are being treated for lacerations. A couple of people have also been shot.
