A bus overtaking Claims another bus at high speed hits the Easybike. One died on the spot and another died on the way to the hospital. Five people, including the driver of the easy bike, were injured in the incident. The injured have been admitted to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex of Gopalganj and are being treated.
The accident took place at Daserhat in Muksudpur Upazila of Gopalganj on the Dhaka Khulna highway at around 11 am on Friday. All the dead and injured are easybike passengers and drivers. The angry crowd later chased the killer bus for a kilometer and set it on fire. Meanwhile, traffic jam was created across one kilometer of the highway.
Later, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control and normalized the traffic.
The deceased are Ranu Begum (60), wife of Akmal Sheikh of Maheshpur Union of Kashiani Upazila, Hayat Sheikh (65), son of Abdul Haque of the same union. The injured are Phul Mia (45), Lamia (15), Jabeda (45), Khuki Begum (47) of the same union. The death toll is expected to rise.
Confirming the matter, the Deputy Inspector of Police of Banga Highway Police Station. Abu Noman said, a passenger bus of Dola Paribahan leaving from Dhaka was going towards Khulna. On the way, when he reached B, K Primary School in Dasherhat area of Muksudpur Upazila on the Dhaka-Khulna highway, he overtook another bus and had a head-on collision with the Muksudpur-bound Ezibike from Kashiani. One person was killed on the spot. One Hayat Ali Sheikh died on the way to rescue the injured and take them to the hospital.
In this incident, the angry local crowd chased the killer bus for a kilometer and set it on fire, halting traffic for about an hour and creating a traffic jam on the highway for about a kilometer.
Later, police and fire service personnel reached the spot and brought the bus fire under control in 15 minutes. As the condition of the injured is critical, they have been referred to different hospitals. It is said that the bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the relatives on the request of the family.
