Food Minister’s wealth has increased 86 times.Nationwide discussion about the wealth of public representatives is now on the rise. In the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission ahead of the National Assembly elections, the assets of most of the public representatives have increased more than before. 

Some have increased their wealth more than a hundredfold. Our district representatives and our own correspondents have sent a comparative analysis of the resources of public representatives.    

Naogaon: At the time of submitting the affidavit for the parliamentary elections in 2008, the movable and immovable assets of Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar were Tk 10 lakh 43 thousand 500. 

Currently, his assets amount to 9 crore 5 lakh 12 thousand 69 including cash money, agricultural and non-agricultural land, house and car, money deposited in banks and financial institutions, money invested in banks as savings certificates and deposits. Which is more than 86 times compared to 2008. In a span of 15 years, Sadhan Chandra Majumdar’s annual income has increased more than 157 times. 

He was elected MP in 2018 and got the responsibility of food minister. Sadhan Chandra Majumdar has always mentioned business and agriculture as profession in his affidavit.In this affidavit, he mentioned honorarium as MP and minister, agriculture sector, interest on bank fixed deposits, contracting business and other sources as sources of his income. Currently his annual income from these sources is 3 crore 94 lakh 23 thousand 256 taka.

 In the 2018 affidavit, he mentioned the annual income of Tk 2 crore 27 lakh 96 thousand 618. After becoming a minister, his annual income increased almost two times in a span of five years. According to the 2008 affidavit, his annual income was Tk 2 lakh 50 thousand. Accordingly, his annual income has increased more than 157 times in a span of 15 years. 

His wealth has grown nearly three times in the last five years after paying family expenses and income tax from his honorarium as an MP and minister, income from the agricultural sector, interest on bank fixed deposits, contracting business and other sources. 

According to the affidavit submitted during the 2018 parliamentary elections, his total movable and immovable assets at that time were Tk 3 crore 23 lakh 29 thousand 639. In the affidavit filed this time, the asset value has been mentioned as 9 crore 5 lakh 12 thousand 69 taka. 

According to the affidavit submitted during the 2008 parliamentary elections, his total movable and immovable assets at that time were Tk 10 lakh 43 thousand 500. As such, his wealth has increased more than 86 times in a span of 15 years.

Health Minister’s wealth has increased by 10.37 times

Manikganj: Manikganj-3 Constituency MP and Health Minister Zahid Malek’s immovable assets have almost doubled in five years and more than 10 times in 15 years. This information is known by analyzing the affidavit filed by Zahid Malek in the returning officer’s office in the ninth, eleventh and current twelfth parliamentary elections. 

In the affidavit given by Awami League candidate Zahid Malek in Manikganj-3 seat, it can be seen that the annual income of the health minister is now 8 crore 29 lakh 97 thousand 25 rupees, which was 71 lakh rupees in 2008. 34 thousand 691 taka. Accordingly, his annual income increased by 7 crore 52 lakh 62 thousand 334 taka in the last 15 years. That is, his annual income has increased 11.63 times in the last 15 years. 

This time, the financial value of his movable assets in terms of cash, foreign currency, deposits in banks and financial institutions, bonds and debentures, vehicles and others is 70 crore 33 lakh 66 thousand 661 taka, which was 6 crore 78 lakh 53 thousand 57 taka in 2008. 

Accordingly, in the last 15 years, the financial value of the health minister’s movable assets has increased by Tk 63 crore 22 lakh 13 thousand 604. In 2018, the amount of his movable assets was 42 crore 24 lakh 46 thousand 571 taka. Accordingly, in the last five years, the amount of his movable assets has increased by 28 crore 9 lakh 20 thousand 90 taka, that is 1.66 times more.

State Minister Palak’s cash has increased 12 times

Natore: MP of Natore-3 (Singra) Constituency Information and Communication Technology State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak’s cash amount has increased 12 times in the last five years. His wife Arifa Jasmin Kanika has increased almost 6 times. 

However, the amount of money in Palak’s bank has decreased. In the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, Palak mentioned that he has cash of Tk 1 crore 17 lakh 41 thousand 112. His wife has 45 lakh 65 thousand 991 taka. 

In the affidavit given during the 2018 election, he mentioned that at that time he had cash of Tk 9 lakh 17 thousand 243. Wife had 6 lakh 79 thousand 560 taka. The amount of cash of both husband and wife has increased manifold. According to the affidavit, Palak has 10 thousand US dollars. He has invested 1 crore 25 lakhs in fixed deposits. 1 crore 62 lakhs of his wife.

Deputy Minister Shamim’s income and assets have decreased

Shariatpur: Awami League’s candidate for Shariatpur-2 (Naria-Sakhipur) constituency, Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim’s income and immovable property have decreased in the last five years. 

Before becoming an MP, he owned a land (house or apartment) worth Tk 34 lakh 47 thousand 610. Currently, that property is not available. He sold it. Apart from this, he has a loan of Tk 33 lakh 66 thousand 962 for the car. According to the affidavit of the 11th Parliament election, Enamul Haque Shamim was the owner of a business, the founding chairman of a private university and the independent director of a private bank. 

This time he is not in these positions. Therefore, in the last five years, the immovable property of Enamul Haque Shamim, his wife and dependents has decreased by more than half a crore rupees. The annual income of Enamul Haque Shamim was Tk 23 lakh 28 thousand 147 in the affidavit of the 11th parliament election. Currently his annual income is 18 lakh 34 thousand 978 taka. In five years, his annual income has decreased by 4 lakh 93 thousand 169 taka.

Mumtaz’s wealth increased

Manikganj: Singer Momtaz Begum MP’s income and wealth have both increased in five years. However, the loan amount has decreased. He is also accused in two criminal cases. Analyzing the affidavit filed in the upcoming parliamentary elections and his income-expenditure data, the information was found. 

He earns 6 lakh 60 thousand taka as MP allowance and 16 lakh 58 thousand taka as fringe benefits. 5 lakh cash in hand. He has deposits of 18 lakh 85 thousand 218 taka in banks and financial institutions. He has shares of Madhu Ujala Cold Storage Limited worth 3 crore 50 lakh 70 thousand taka. There is a savings account of Tk 45 lakhs. 

Mumtaz Begum has 3 cars in her name. A car called Land Cruiser costs 1 crore 3 lakh 12 thousand 500 taka. Apart from this, he has a Land Cruiser V-8 model car worth Tk 46 lakh 20 thousand and a Toyota Hiace worth Tk 28 lakh. The shares of Madhu Ujala Cold Storage in the name of dependents are 65 lakh 76 thousand rupees.

Bablu’s income increased 725 times

Member of Parliament for Bogra-7 (Gabatli-Shajahanpur) Constituency Rezaul Karim Bablu has become an independent candidate again this time. In the affidavit of the 12th Parliament election, he showed the annual income of himself and his dependents as 36 lakh 24 thousand 335 taka. The annual income of himself and his dependents in the 11th National Assembly elections was 5 thousand taka. 

In a span of five years, his income increased almost 725 times. Not only Bablu’s income has increased, but his housewife wife Beauty Begum did not mention any cash or building in her name in the last parliamentary elections, but this time she has a lot of wealth in her name. Five years ago the profession was business and journalism. 

Now he has mentioned in the affidavit of the 12th parliament election that he is an online businessman with bricks, sand and cement. Five years ago, Bablu had mentioned in an affidavit that his annual income was Rs. 5,000. At that time he had 30,000 in cash and 30,000 in the bank. At that time he had an old motorcycle of his own which cost 50 thousand taka. Currently he has two cars. One of these is the Nissan Xtrail Jeep and the other is the Land Cruiser. The price of both is 1 crore 4 lakh 45 thousand taka.

Nixon Chowdhury’s wealth increased more than 50 times

Faridpur: Mojibur Rahman Chowdhury Nixon’s business and real estate assets have increased more than 50 times within a decade after being elected as an independent MP from Faridpur-4 (Bhanga, Charbhadrasan, Sadarpur) constituency. According to the data submitted to the Election Commission, Nixon Chowdhury’s agricultural land was only 38 percent in 2013. 

After 10 years in 2023, agricultural land is 20 acres 39 percent or 2 thousand 39 percent. In 10 years, agricultural land has increased almost 54 times. In the affidavit, Nixon Chowdhury mentioned the details of his profession as transport and construction, petrol pump and filling station, dairy farm, duck farm and fisheries. 

Nixon had no land at his current address when he was elected to Parliament a decade ago. After serving as an MP for two terms, he has become the owner of 2,39 percent or more than 20 acres of land. Apart from this, in 2014 there is no house or building in his name at the present address (Bhangay in Faridpur) but he has got a house in Bhangay after a gap of 10 years. Apart from this, there are flats in Gulshan, Banani.

Cox’s Bazar: The current MP of Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakria-Pekua) Constituency, Zafar Alam, has the most money among the MPs of the four constituencies of Cox’s Bazar. According to the affidavit, he owns about 16.5 million rupees. Cox’s Bazar-2 (Maheshkhali-Qutubdia) Constituency MP Ashek Ullah Rafique has the least amount of money. 

Whose wealth is around 6 crore 23 lakh rupees. Cox’s Bazar-4 (Ukhia-Teknaf) Constituency MP Shaheen Akhter is the owner of the second highest wealth. According to the affidavit, her husband Abdur Rahman Badi owns about 13 crores out of 15.5 crores of wealth. Next is Cox’s Bazar-3 (Cox’s Bazar Sadar-Ramu-Idgaon) MP Saimum Sarwar Kamal. His wealth is around 7 crore 93 lakh rupees.

Japa candidate has more wealth in Munshiganj

Munshiganj: Among the 24 valid candidates in Munshiganj’s 3 parliamentary constituencies, Jatiya Party candidate AFM Rafiqullah Selim has the most wealth in Munshiganj-3 (Munshiganj Sadar and Ghazaria) constituencies. In the affidavit, he mentioned MD of Passenger Shipping Alhaj Lal Mia Saptmukhi Food Scheme Limited and Actor as his occupation. Awami League candidate Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das, Awami League independent candidate Mohammad Faisal Biplab, Zaker Party’s Samim Haider Mollah, BNF’s Mumtaz Sultana Ahmed are also electing from this seat.

Eighth class and self-educated seven candidates in Kurigram

Kurigram: 25 independent candidates including 11 political parties in 4 parliamentary constituencies in Kurigram. There are four independent candidates among them. In terms of educational qualification, five are highly educated, three are BA pass, five are HSC, five are SSC and three are said to be eighth class pass. 

And four claimed to be self-educated. The annual income of one person is around one million taka, half a million taka one person, 27 lakh one person, 8 to 15 lakh taka income of five people, 5 to 7 lakh taka income of three people, 13 people have an income of 2 to 4 lakh taka and only one person has an income of 1 lakh taka. Six people have immovable assets over crores of rupees. 14 people said business, three employed and eight took agriculture as their profession.

Kazi Keramat’s income has decreased

Rajbari: Awami League candidate Kazi Kermat Ali in Rajbari-1 (Sadar-Gowaland) seat has reduced his annual income in five years. The amount of immovable assets has increased but the amount of immovable assets has decreased. Apart from this, his wife’s wealth has increased in the last five years. Wife became a millionaire. 

Kazi Keramat Ali is a five-time MP from this constituency. This time in the affidavit submitted to the returning officer, the annual income of Kazi Keramat Ali is Tk 33 lakh 64 thousand 841. Whereas the annual income of Kazi Keramat was shown as 53 lakh 45 thousand 436 taka in the eleventh national parliament election affidavit. A review of two affidavits shows that his annual income has decreased over five years.

Controversy over the wealth of MP and former MP

Kushtia: Before the polls in Kushtia-1 constituency, there is a lot of controversy over the assets of the candidates’ affidavits. Among them, the wealth of the current MP A Kam Sarwar Jahan Badshah has increased 10 times in five years. Vice President Rezaul Haque Chowdhury’s income has decreased a lot in the last five years as there is no more MP. 

Even then, the wealth has increased almost one and a half times. Conscious citizens say that their increase in wealth is unusual. Awami League leader Rezaul Haque Chowdhury was elected MP as an independent candidate in Kushtia-1 constituency in the 10th parliamentary elections. 

In 2018, when he was a candidate for the 11th Parliament, the annual income was shown as 28 lakh 82 thousand taka. This time in the affidavit, his annual income including the income of his wife and sons is shown as 17 lakh 60 thousand taka. Rezaul Haque Chowdhury’s wealth has increased even though his annual income has decreased by Tk 11 lakh. In 2018, the assets of him and his dependents increased from 1 crore 13 lakh to 1 crore 65 lakh.

The rich candidate is former health minister Ruhul Haque

Satkhira: The income of Advocate Mustafa Lutfullah, the candidate of the Workers Party of the Grand Alliance of Satkhira-1 Constituency, has increased in a row. This time, the income of Satkhira District Awami League Vice President MP Mir Mostak Ahmed Ravi, who is an independent candidate for Satkhira-2 seat, who is deprived of party nomination, has decreased. 

And among the 36 candidates in the 4 constituencies of Satkhira, the richest candidate is one of the members of the advisory board of the central Awami League, the former health minister. A F M Ruhul Haque. It can be seen from the affidavit of the 12th National Assembly election, his annual income is more than one and a half crore rupees. 

The value of his immovable and immovable property is about Tk 19 crores. Satkhira-1 Constituency Member of Parliament Mustafa Lutfullah’s annual income has reached more than 9 times in 10 years. Immovable assets have increased more than 25 times. And the amount of immovable assets has increased more than 3 times. In 2014, he and his wife earned an annual income of Tk 4 lakh 2 thousand from law and teaching profession respectively. 

His annual income is currently Tk 38 lakh in a span of 10 years. Independent candidate of Satkhira-2 (Sadar) Constituency, current Awami League MP Mir Mostak Ahmed Ravi’s income has decreased. His annual income was Tk 30 lakh 34 thousand including house rent, business and honors received as a member of parliament. And in this affidavit, he has shown his annual income of 28 lakh 19 thousand taka.
