Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar has urged the technology company Google’s office data center in Bangladesh to provide data security, emphasize the excellence of the Bengali language, and introduce mailing addresses in Bengali like English.

This call was made during a courtesy meeting with the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Callie Gardner, Government Affairs and Public Policy Manager of the South Asia Region of Google Asia Pacific, at the Secretariat on Wednesday (September 20).

During the meeting, they exchanged views on issues related to bilateral interests, especially the safe use of Google, digital training, the development of Bengali digital content, and making Google more people-friendly.

The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications said that people have been using Google as a medium for various types of information. As a result of the expansion of digital connectivity in continuation of the Digital Bangladesh program announced by Sheikh Hasina in 2008, digital technology, including Google, has changed people’s lifestyles.

At this time, the minister highlighted the need for effective efforts to remove offensive content, including propaganda, and hoped for Google’s cooperation in this matter.

Callie Gardner promised that Google’s office data center in Bangladesh will seriously consider any suggestion to bridge the gap in establishing Smart Bangladesh from Digital Bangladesh. He hoped for the cooperation of the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications in this regard. The minister promised all possible cooperation in this regard.
