Cyclone ‘Hamun’, which is located in North-West Bay of Bengal, has moved further towards the Northeast and has intensified into a very strong cyclonic storm.This information was given in the special weather bulletin today on Tuesday afternoon.

It is said that very strong Cyclone Hamun is currently located in the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Northeast Bay of Bengal.

Maximum sustained wind speed is 120 km/h within 74 km of the cyclone center, increasing to 130 km/h in gust or gale form. The sea is rough near the center of the super cyclone.

It was located 330 km west-southwest of Chittagong seaport, 295 km west-southwest of Cox’s Bazar seaport, 250 km southwest of Mongla seaport and 215 km southwest of Payra seaport at 12 noon today.

The cyclone is likely to move further north-northeastwards and cross the Barisal-Chittagong coast as a cyclonic storm near the Meghna Estuary tomorrow night to early morning.

According to the special weather notice, heavy to very heavy rains with gusty or windy winds are continuing in North Bay of Bengal and adjacent coastal areas of Bangladesh under the influence of the advanced part of the very strong cyclone.

Payra and Chittagong seaports have been asked to display danger signal number 7, Cox’s Bazar seaport number 6 and Mongla seaport number 5.

Coastal districts of Patuakhali, Bhola, Barisal, Pirojpur, Jhalkathi, Barguna, Chittagong, Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur and their nearby islands and char will be under danger signal number 7.The coastal districts of Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their outlying islands and char will be under danger signal number 5.

Due to the impact of very strong cyclone, the coastal districts of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Noakhali, Lakshipur, Feni, Barguna, Patuakhari, Bhola, Barisal, Pirojpur, Jhalkathi, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their remote islands and the lower areas of Char are 3-5 feet higher than the normal tide. May be inundated by high tides.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions under the influence of very strong cyclone. Landslides may occur in hilly areas of Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari and Chittagong due to heavy rainfall.Fishing boats and trawlers operating in North Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to stay safe until further notice.
