The Thana police have arrested two persons for allegedly torturing a Housewives and youth allegedly to a tree and smearing ink on his face at Haluaghat in Mymensingh. The incident took place in Dakshin Ghoshber area of the upazila on Saturday (September 9) at noon.
The arrested are Nazmul Islam (35) son of Dudu Mia of Nalua village of Haluaghat upazila and Abu Saeed (50) son of A: Khalek of South Ghoshber area. In this incident, the housewife filed a case under the Haluaghat Women and Torture Suppression Act against 7 people as the plaintiff that night. Today Sunday (September 10) the two accused were sent to jail through the court. This was confirmed by the investigating officer of the case Sub-Inspector (SI) Shariful Islam.
According to the police station and the plaintiff’s complaint, the housewife who was subjected to torture and slander came to her grandmother’s house several days ago from her husband’s house. The housewife came to know that the grandmother had given some money to a neighbor named Ishaq to buy a new mobile phone.
At noon on the day of the incident, the young neighbor bought a mobile phone and called and did not get any response. The victim of the incident, the housewife went out and while talking, the teenager named Hriday (21), who was the defendant in the case, was involved in extramarital affairs with other defendants.
Tied to a tree and blocked. In addition to being blocked, they were tortured by smearing ink on their faces to make them socially inferior. Seeing such injustice to the devotees, other locals informed the police station. On receiving the news of such an incident, police rushed to the spot freed them, and brought them to police custody.
In this incident, the local and the victim’s family demanded a fair trial from the police and the administration. The family members also claimed that the perpetrators committed such an act due to previous enmity.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Haluaghat police station Suman Chandra Roy said that two people were arrested and sent to jail through the court given the case filed by the housewife. Police are working in the field to catch others in this incident.
