Jatiya Party 36 members 6. Awami League is discussing giving 36 seats to Jatiya Party (Japa). At the same time, 6 seats may be left for the leaders of the 14 alliance parties. Leaders of participating parties will vote with boats. The Jatiya Party will go to the polls with its own symbol, the plough. There were glimpses of talking to several leaders of the ruling party, Jatiya Party and partner parties.

In the meantime, the discussion of the seat agreement with the Awami League has started with the parties concerned. Top leaders of 14 central parties met with Awami League President Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban last Monday. It was decided to go to the polls as a coalition. Four leaders of Awami League were given the responsibility to discuss with the partners where the leaders of the alliance will get seats.

As part of this yesterday afternoon, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, Jasad President Hasanul Haque Inu and General Secretary Shirin Akhtar held a meeting at the residence of Amir Hossain Amur Iskaton, the responsible leader, spokesperson and coordinator of 14 parties. Today there will be a meeting with the Jatiya Party about seats. Meanwhile, rumors of a three-member delegation including Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were heard yesterday evening.

It is known that in yesterday’s meeting, seat compromise was discussed but no decision was finalized. For this, the leaders feel that more time is needed. As a result, the candidates of 14 parties have to wait for a few more days to go to the polls. Sources said that apart from this, a meeting will be held today with the two-time main opposition party Jatiya Party at Amir Hossain Amur’s residence.

Amir Hossain Amu, coordinator of the 14-party alliance and member of the advisory council of Awami League, said, ‘The issue of seat sharing among the 14 party members will be decided subject to discussion with the Jatiya Party. Elections will be by coalition. Awami League will discuss with Jatiya Party tomorrow (today). We have to wait till December 17 to finalize the alliance’s seat arrangements and candidates.

Amu said about the seat agreement, ‘so far everything is uncertain. Because there is a candidate of Awami League against Awami League. As a result, it is not possible to say who will stay, who will not stay, who will withdraw, who will not. The seat arrangement may be announced earlier. But everything will have to wait.

Then there is the National Party, there will be discussions with them. Their seating will be arranged.’ A source of Awami League said that the top six leaders of 14 parties may be given boats this time. Among them, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, General Secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha, Jasad President Hasanul Haque Inu, Tarikat Federation Chairman Syed Najibul Bashar Maizbhandari. Apart from this, there is a strong possibility of giving seats to Jatiya Party-JP Chairman Anwar Hossain Manju and General Secretary Sheikh Shahidul Islam. They will elect their own symbol bicycle.

A Jatiya Party source said that the Jatiya Party wants a guarantee of victory before the polls. They want at least 50 seats from the ruling Awami League. Boat candidates in these seats are being messaged directly and through multiple channels to sit and work for them. Awami League has not told the Jatiya Party anything final about this.

The Jatiya Party is preparing to withdraw from the election if it does not get the required number of seats. The reason given by the party leaders is that if there is a boat candidate in the field, it will be difficult to win with a plough. That’s why the candidates want to be sure about the seat now.

A co-chairman of the Jatiya Party told Bangladesh Pratidin on the condition of anonymity in this context, ‘We have conducted the last three elections in alliance and agreement with the Awami League. I want to do the next election as a coalition. For this a list of 50 seats has been sent to the Prime Minister. Where there will be no contenders for the boat symbol.

I hope the prime minister will give us concessions on the expected seats like other times.’ Two Awami League leaders said on condition of anonymity that even if the Jatiya Party is given the seat, the boat candidate will not be withdrawn. Because the rulers want competitive elections.

In order for the Jatiya Party to contest and emerge victorious, seats where the Jatiya Party has votes, relatively weak candidates or completely new faces have been given boats. Awami League has got a glimpse of leaving Jatiya Party with a total of 36 seats in case of seat sharing. Yesterday, the coordinator and spokesperson of the 14 party, Amir Hossain, came out of Amur’s house and said, “A list has been given by the alliance.” 14 parties have asked for some more seats than before.

It has been discussed that the issue of seat sharing should be finalized by protecting the dignity and honor of the alliance.’ Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) President Hasanul Haque Inu said, ‘It is expected that seat sharing should be honorable for the alliance. We now have 10 MPs, expected to be 20. He said, where the candidate of the alliance will come, there the candidate of Awami League will rise. The candidates of the coalition will be elected on the boat mark.

Amir Hossain Amu, coordinator of the 14-party alliance and member of the advisory council of Awami League, told the media that we will hold elections together in some constituencies. And in some constituencies, the participating parties will elect themselves. Members will use the boat symbol in co-opted seats. Remaining seats will use their own symbols.

Meanwhile, Awami League General Secretary, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader while talking to the media at the Awami League President’s political office in Dhanmondi yesterday afternoon, said that there must be an agreement between the Awami League and the 14 party. The issue of seat distribution will be clear within these days.’ He said, ‘Many candidates have stood independently everywhere. What is the expectation of the 14-party alliance and what is the reality of what they will get, we will decide on two things together. Some of them may vote on the boat symbol, but their other candidates vote on their own brand.’
