Feni Daganbhunya Upazila BNP Leader President Akbar Hossain has been arrested by the police. When Mashal took out a torch march in support of the blockade, it is said that Jubo League and Chhatra League leaders and activists surrounded him and handed him over to the police.
He was arrested from Tulatuli area of the upazila on Saturday 25 November evening. Akbar Hossain is the younger brother of BNP Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Mintu.
According to police and local sources, a torchlight procession took place in the area on Saturday evening in support of the blockade. Daganbhunya Upazila BNP President Akbar Hossain led the procession. Jubo League-Chhatra League activists surrounded them and informed the police.
Feni District BNP Joint Convenor Anwar Hossain Patwari said that Akbar Hossain was on his way back after finishing the procession, the leaders and activists of Chhatra League and Jubo League arrested him and handed him over to the police.
Daganbhunya Upazila Jubo League leader Abu Naser Chowdhury denied the beating of Chhatra League-Jubo League workers.
Daganbhunya Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Nizam Uddin said that locals arrested Akbar Hossain and handed him over to the police. However, the number of cases against him is being verified. He will be sent to court on Sunday.
