More than 2000 dead in Moroccan earthquake

The death toll from the Moroccan earthquake has exceeded 2,000. Rescuers are trying their best to rescue survivors from the rubble. It was Morocco’s worst earthquake in 60 years.

The death toll from the 6.8-magnitude earthquake late last Friday has risen to 2,012. 2,059 people were injured. A large number of people have become homeless. Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has ordered the military to conduct search and rescue operations.

The most affected by the Moroccan earthquake is the historic Marrakesh area. Many historical structures here were damaged by the earthquake. The epicenter of the earthquake was the mountain village of Tafeghaghte. Virtually no building now stands here. The traditional Berber tribe of the region used to build mud houses.
