Lands Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury raised a bill in the National Parliament on Sunday to prevent land development tax levy, tax evasion and irregularities in collection.

The minister said that under the new law, permission of the government is required to own more than 60 bigha of agricultural land. However, the rent will be waived up to 25 bighas. The land minister also said that five crore rupees are being collected daily as a result of paying the land tax online.

However, Jatiya Party Member of Parliament Kazi Feroz Rashid objected to the bill and said that the government is being cheated by showing the highest price of the lowest priced mouza. He demanded that separate rates be fixed in plains and hills.

In this context, Gano Forum MP Mokabbir Khan complained that the amendment will increase the scope for corruption.

The land minister hopes that the lack of coordination with the law ministry regarding land registration will be resolved soon.

Apart from this, Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority Bill-2023 was passed in Sunday’s session. The purpose of which is to ensure transparency, efficiency and accountability in government procurement.
