Law enforcers picked him up from Dholaikhal around noon
Police dropped off BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy at his city home this afternoon, hours after taking him to the DB office from Dholaikhal where the party men clashed with law enforcers.
Speaking to reporters in front of DB office on Minto Road, Additional Commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Harun Or Rashid said several senior police officials were injured in the clash.
“BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra was also injured due to throwing of brickbats. Police then escorted him to the Detective Branch office for safety. Later, he was dropped off at his home safely,” he added.
The BNP leader reached home around 3:25pm, said sources close him.
Harun also said cases would be filed in connection with the clash and legal actions would be taken against those found involved.
“We had intelligence that they [BNP] could create such an unstable situation. Accordingly, we had deployed enough police personnel. It is very shameful that they attacked police in such a way,” he said.
Although BNP didn’t seek permission from DMP for sit-ins, Awami League applied for permission to hold “peace rallies”, said the DB official.
The DMP commissioner, however, denied both the parties permissions and imposed section 144 to ensure smooth movement of traffic, he added.
