Prime Minister regrets not being able to make a woman Chief Justice

Prime Minister regrets not being able to make a woman Chief Justice. He said this in a tone of regret at the Begum Rokeya-2023 medal awarding ceremony at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Saturday morning (December 9). At this time, the Prime Minister also expressed satisfaction that the women of Bangladesh are at the top of the Asian countries.

The Prime Minister said, ‘Women cannot participate in the judicial service, that was the law of Pakistan. After independence the father of the nation changed all the laws. After this law change, the girls of our country can join the judicial service.

Sheikh Hasina said, ‘I came to the government and saw that there is no woman judge in our high court. Then I took the initiative, I spoke to His Excellency the President, the Chief Justice, I also said to the Law Minister – if a judge is appointed to the High Court, if there is no name of a woman judge in it, I will never sign that file, I will never send it to the President. The journey starts from that.’

He also said, ‘During Begum Rokeya, Muslim girls used to stay indoors. There was no opportunity for education. But her husband always supported her, her brother supported her. She tried her hand at learning Urdu, Bengali, Arabic, English, learning from her husband. Received literacy and reading from her husband.’

Sheikh Hasina said, ‘After the death of her husband, she also got an inspiration from her brother. Built a school named after her husband. Even after building the school, he had to face many hurdles. Because the school she had done in her husband’s name, female students could not be taught there. He used to go outside his house and collect students. In doing so, many family obstacles and obstacles have come up. He never gave up.’

Awami League president said, ‘Girls of Bangladesh are no longer behind. From sports to politics, women are succeeding in all fields. From journalism to the arts, women are successful everywhere. Now, no one can stop women from employment by talking about Islam.’

State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira presided over the ceremony and the secretary of the ministry Najma Mubarek gave a welcome speech.
