Seat Left the League not the National Party: Chunnu

Jatiya Party (Japa) Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu said, ‘We must have an acceptance by the people. For this reason, Awami League and other big parties are asked to be together before the elections. This time we have given candidates in more seats than Awami League. Still they can tell why they gave up our seats.

We have not spared any seats.’Chunnu said these things in response to reporters’ questions at the Jatiya Party chairman’s office at Banani in the capital on Thursday afternoon. A press conference was organized at the office to announce the party’s election manifesto.

In response to the question of what the Jatiya Party has done as an opposition party in the Parliament, Chunnu said, ‘GM Quader and I have nothing to say on behalf of the people of the country which we have not raised in the Parliament.

I talked about various corruptions and weaknesses of the government. So no one can accuse me of not doing anything.’

Regarding the role of the opposition party at the field level, Zapa General Secretary said, ‘We have worked to organize on the ground. I didn’t block the roads and hold meetings, I didn’t go on strike.

We are not in favor of strike. Strike is a political culture. We don’t block people’s movement, we don’t vandalize cars. We functioned as a tolerant opposition within a state structure.’
