Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given instructions to phase out allowances from water and power sectors. He said, we all use electricity and water. It is not true that everyone gets subsidy. We have to get out of this place.
Electricity and water prices should be determined gradually based on area and income.He gave this instruction at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) at Sher Bangla Nagar NEC meeting room in the capital on Thursday. Prime Minister presided over the meeting. At the end of the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan presented the details of the Prime Minister’s order.
Highlighting the Prime Minister’s speech, the Planning Minister said that the Prime Minister has talked about getting out of the subsidy gradually. I am a minister, it is not right if a day laborer gets the same subsidy that I get for water and electricity. Therefore, the Prime Minister has talked about determining the price of water and electricity based on area and income. The Planning Minister said that there has been no discussion at the final stage yet.
