The United Nations will not send observers to the election.The UN will not send any observers to the upcoming national elections in January. Stephen Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, said this in response to a journalist’s question at a briefing on Wednesday (November 29).
A journalist asked at the briefing – According to the Human Rights Watch report, the ongoing systematic repression of opposition party members and critics by Bangladeshi security forces has made a free and fair election impossible.

In response to the question, Stephen Dujarric said that the United Nations is not deploying observers in these elections. We rarely do this without specific orders.
He further said, we have seen reports of Human Rights Watch and other organizations. We again call on all parties concerned to ensure that people are able to express their views freely, freely, without harassment.
Incidentally, a pre-election observation team of six members of the European Union (EU) visited Bangladesh on the invitation of the Election Commission from July 8 to 23. After that, they informed that the European Union will not send a full observer team to monitor the election.
