Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, we will use nuclear power to protect peace. For this we have set up an independent nuclear regulatory authority.
He said this at the official ceremony of handing over fresh nuclear fuel or uranium of Rooppur nuclear power plant near Bangladesh today, Thursday, October 5 at noon. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the event virtually.
The Prime Minister said that the government is committed to producing clean and reliable electricity and reducing carbon emissions. Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will play a leading role in achieving this goal.
He said that this state-of-the-art mega project will meet the country’s electricity needs and reduce carbon emissions and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. He also said, I believe that Rooppur nuclear power plant will play an important role in the economic development of the country and in building a smart Bangladesh.
It is to be noted that this fuel was handed over in an event held at the Ishwardi plant site this afternoon. Alexei Likhachev, Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom), handed over the uranium on behalf of Russia. Science and Technology Minister Architect Yafes Osman accepted the uranium on behalf of Bangladesh.
