Member of Parliament from Comilla Sadar Constituency AKM Bahauddin Bahar said, ‘I still talk about alcohol-free puja. This is not just my words but also from Delhi.’
Local MP Bahauddin Bahar called on the Hindus to celebrate the ‘Alcohol-Free Puja’ at a meeting held at the Comilla District Commissioner’s office on October 4.
He said, ‘drinking alcohol and dancing should be stopped during the puja. It is not allowed to sleep in the morning after dancing all night. Drug-free puja should start from Comilla. Write “Drug free worship” on the mandap. If you perform alcohol-free puja, the number of pujas will decrease, there will not be so many pavilions.’
Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Association has organized a protest program condemning his statement.Yesterday, when Oikya Parishad marched in Comilla, the local Jubo League attacked it . At least two people were injured.
After publishing that statement of MP Bahar, Deputy Editor of Comilla paper Zahir Shanto and photojournalist Sajib Hossain were thrown out of the discussion meeting with various puja celebration committees of the city at Comilla Town Hall on Thursday.
